Homemade Laundry Soap!

Well, I've been wanting to do this for some time.  I've had the supplies for months.  If you do a search on Google or Pinterest there are hundreds of recipes......cheap, effective laundry soap.

So...it has happened....I ran out of soap last week.  I ran out of clean socks over the weekend.  So, today is the day.  I made laundry soap.  The first load is in the washer.

I was going to do the liquid soap, but ended up doing a batch of dry soap because it was quicker and I could use it today rather than waiting for it to "gel".  (I really need socks!!)

I am going to try some of the other recipes I found but for now here it is:

1 bar fels-nap soap
1 cup 20-mule Borax soap
1 cup WASHING soda, (not baking soda)

(Of course, it would be easy to double, triple.....this recipe)

I used my salad shooter to grate the fels-nap soap, but it was very crumbly so I think it'd be pretty easy to do by hand.

Mix the three soaps all together, take a really BAD picture.

Put it in a container.  I used one that has been put in the recycling bin so many times, but keeps getting pulled back out because I think of somthing I can use it for....now laundry soap.

You only use 2 TEASPOONS of soap per load of laundry. Yes, you read that right!!  I have a 1/8 measuring cup that I have never used for...anything.  Now it's in the laundry soap.  I takes 1/16 of a cup per load.

That is cheap!

And that is something marked off my 101 in 1001 list!!

(I will post the other recipes as I try them.)

I think I will post this to the Blog Hop as well!  I'm number #121 in the Barnyard Hop:

OOOOOO let me know how well it works! i've been wanting to try that too! i figure if the Dugger's can use that homemade soap in their HE machines I could too! and i'm all about saving the $$'s too! How about the fabric softener? They (the D's) cut up sponges they leave soaking in their softener bucket & toss one in with their laundry...Hmmm...I'll Have to look that up again....Sheryl

Sheryl-I have a few sock that have lost their mates (don't we all) so I cut them lengthwise and then put snuggle on them and throw one into the dryer. I also found recipes for fabric softner and "shout" that I will be trying when I run out of the store bought stuff. Thanks for commenting!
